Tips for Planting Bush Beans

June 1, 2022coral Standard

Tips for Planting Bush Beans

It is simple to raise bush beans in pots or in your backyard garden. Your kids will enjoy it, so invite them when you’re ready to begin.

Moreover, the soil will also benefit from the planted beans. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone: you’ll plant beans and have healthier soil. This is because legume plants, including beans, add nitrogen to the soil.

While not all gardeners agree that it’s essential to soak the bean seeds before planting, it’s not bad to try. The process can actually help the seeds to germinate faster.

However, be mindful of how fast the bean seeds rot, especially at cool soil temperatures. When soaking them, limit the time to eight hours or less. Also, remember to rinse the seeds before planting.

It’s important to be mindful of the distance and depth of the seeds you plant. The distance should be up to two inches, and the depth should be one inch. You must also have spacing in between rows of about 18 inches, but you can limit it to 10 inches if you have raised beds or limited space.

You must also read the labels of the seed package. Choose seeds packed in the past year more than the older ones. The seeds of beans germinate slower as they get older.

You will have better germination with newer seeds. If you have seeds that are two years older or more, they will likely decrease the germination rate by half.

While they are easy to plant, you have to choose the right climate when doing it. These beans are sensitive to frost and love the heat. It is best to plant them when the soil’s temperature is 25 C.

So what do you do with your garden while waiting for the right time to plant beans? You can plant fast-growing seeds that are immune to cold and freeze. Some samples include spinach and radishes.
