Egusi is a watermelon that is not grown for edible flesh but rather for it’s edible seeds which are oil and protein rich. It is a very drought tolerant plant from West Africa. The seed is ground and used for making traditional egusi soup and in some baked goods. It was grown for the first time in our garden in 2013.
