Cream of Saskatchewan is a watermelon that produces large, round, light green striped with darker green fruits. The sweet, crisp flesh is pale yellow. The rind is very thin and the least bump causes the ripe fruit to crack. We do not know where the name comes from but this is an older variety, perhaps brought to Saskatchewan by immigrants from the former Soviet Union.Vine Crops / Watermelons
Egusi is a watermelon that is not grown for edible flesh but rather for it’s edible seeds which are oil and protein rich. It is a very drought tolerant plant from West Africa. The seed is ground and used for making traditional egusi soup and in some baked goods. It was grown for the first time in our garden in 2013.
