Comtesse de Chambord is a French bean from the early 1800’s and one of the parents of Blue Jay. It produces a heavy yield of short (4”) slim pods, and has small white to pale green seeds.

It has vigorous plants that give a heavy yield of slim pods somewhat shorter than the other varieties listed here. Green pods turning purple as they mature will develop strings if they are not picked promptly. Seeds are glossy black and can also be eaten as a dry bean.
