Lima beans were domesticated in the Andes around 2000 BCE. It wasn’t until the 1500s that lima beans were being grown in Europe and the Mediterranean regions. Limas are normally grown as fresh shell beans and in long season areas may be grown as dry beans.
Henderson Bush Lima was introduced in 1889 by the Peter Henderson Company of New York. Dwarf bush plants grow like regular bush beans. One of the earliest maturing limas, tasty and tender eaten as a fresh shell bean. Can also be used as a dry bean.
