SWEET AND DRY CORN
– My main sweet corn, and the most popular of all my seeds,
is SIMONET, developed by Robert Simonet of Edmonton. It has full sized ears and excellent
flavour. We usually start harvesting at the beginning of August.
ORCHARD BABY is a short early variety yielding two 5"-6" ears with sweet yellow ker- -6- nels. The variety comes from Native American tribes from the northern US great plains
and was introduced into the seed trade by Oscar Will Seed Co. probably about 100 years
ago.
Golden Bantam was developed by J.G. Picket in Massachusetts in 1902. It is still the
standard for open-pollinated yellow sweet corn. The 5"-7" ears have excellent flavour
but mature a bit late here in Saskatchewan. I am offering EARLY GOLDEN BANTAM (C),
one of a number of strains developed in its 100 year history.
LUTHER HILL is an early white sweet corn that produces 3"- 5" ears on short plants.
It was developed by Luther Hill of Andover Township, New Jersey, about 1902.
DWARF MULTICOLOURED corn has small to medium-sized cobs. It is not a sweet corn, but it is very good for cornmeal as well as for decorative purposes. It is very early
so most of the cobs will ripen on the stalk.
Simonet, Orchard Baby & Luther Hill 50g @ $2.50
Early Golden Bantam & Dwarf Multicoloured 50g @ $2.50, 125g @ $3.50
